Peschiera del Garda
Peschiera del Garda is about 25 Km west of Verona. It stands on the south of Lake Garda in an area protected by winds.
In Peschiera the waters of Lake Garda flow into the river Mincio. The pentagon-shape of this walled-in town, surrounded by water, has changed the natural route of the river: actually three streams of water flowing out of the lake, that get later together in the south of the area, had been created in order to protect the town.
In Peschiera there is an important railway station connecting Milan to Venice; here many trains stop, most are Frecciabianca, EC, regional and fast regional trains of the line Brescia-Verona. Till 1967 the line Mantua-Peschiera depended on it too.
Peschiera offers many road links: a toll booth on A4 Highway A4, the regional SS 11 PadanaSuperiore (west) and 249 Gardesana Orientale (east) roads. By ferryboat you can easily reach all the towns around the lake.
A 43.5-km bike trackruns along the bank of the river Mincio, between the towns of Peschiera del Garda and Mantua. If you follow the north-south route, the starting point is by the railway viaduct of Peschiera. The track starts on the right side of the Mincio, going later to the left one just before the village of Monzambano, by the dam of Salionze.
